Dr. Smeall’s instruction is unique in that he teaches students to compose and improvise their own music, and to play by ear as well as by reading music. He encourages students to have a positive attitude towards building a happy musical life. His methods combine the best of Suzuki, folk, popular, jazz, classical, and children’s music to make music enjoyable and rewarding . He has over twenty-five years of experience in bringing happiness to students through an organized, disciplined study of music.
The lessons are student centered and individualized. Construct a program that fits your real music making needs.
Ensemble classes are available for students already attending private lessons. A summer recital, Solo and Ensemble coaching and help with university and college application portfolios are included. References will be provided.
Dr. Smeall has authored his own method book,
The SongCycleS Music Method. This method book teaches reading both standard notation and chord symbols. All exercises come with a reference CD sound recording. The Method combines the best and proven teaching and learning methods and is student tested.

Mr. Smeall enjoys teaching students of all age groups, from early childhood through senior citizenship, and all styles of contemporary music.
The Studio is spacious with windows, and a large waiting room that is open to the studio area, so parents can easily monitor the instruction.
The waiting area has a sofa, chairs, its own bathroom, a toy box, a children’s bookshelf, scrap paper and crayons, and a rug, so it’s good for family and friends waiting for students in the lesson.
